Wisconsin Technical College - UWL Transfer Guide

This agreement is designed to support credit transfer and provide a smooth transition from the associate degree to the bachelor’s degree for students transferring from Wisconsin Technical College (WTC) to UW–La Crosse (UWL).

In accordance with the UW System transfer policy, UWL can accept up to a maximum of 72 credits from the Wisconsin Technical College System institutions without first having earned an associate degree.

General Education Program Course Requirements
Completion of the General Education Program course requirements is a requirement for all UWL students. WTC courses with established UWL General Education course equivalencies are indicated in the Program Curriculum Transfer Equivalencies section below.

Articulation Agreements

Program-to-program articulation agreements between Western Technical College (WTC) and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL). Please contact the Admissions Office at UW-La Crosse for specific information regarding these agreements.

Students transferring from Western Technical College (WTC) who have earned an Associate of Science in Liberal Arts (AA) degree are exempt from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL) General Education Program requirements. Students accepted under this two-year transfer policy are required, however, to meet UWL's Minority Culture/Multiracial Women’s Studies requirement as well as all core, professional, major, and minor requirements.

WTC Associate of Arts

AA to Race, Gender, & Sexuality Studies BS/BA

Effective Date: January 2024

Purpose: This articulation agreement provides the opportunity for Western Technical College (WTC) students who are in the Associate of Arts (AA) program to be awarded the following equivalent credits upon entry to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL) Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree: Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

A completed WTC AA degree will satisfy the UWL General Education requirements.


AA and UWL Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Major
WTC students are advised to include the following courses in their AA degree work to fulfill requirements in the Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies major.

Remaining required courses depend on specific electives completed as part of the AA degree. In addition to the Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies courses taken at WTC, students must complete the following Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies requirements. Students must also fulfill the core requirements for either a BS or BA. Finally, students are required to complete the requirements for a minor, second major, or an Individualized Option.

  • 120 credits with a minimum 2.00 resident UWL GPA
  • 40 credits at the 300/400 level
  • Complete major and minor requirements with a minimum 2.0 resident UWL GPA
  • A minimum of 30 credits in residence at UWL

Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Major Requirements - 33 credits total

  • RGS 100 Race, Gender, Sexuality, and Class - 3 credits (may be completed at WTC)
  • RGS 377 Critical Research and Advocacy Methods - 3 credits
  • Theory and Practice course - 3 credits
  • RGS 490 RGSS Senior Capstone - 3 credits
  • RGSS Electives - 21 credits (20-801-212 Ethnic Literature may be used for 3 of these 21 credits)

Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) Core Requirements

  • BA core consists of 9-13 credits and requires a language course at the 102 level or higher
  • BS core consists of approximately 13 credits and requires a lab science
  • BA and BS cores require at least one Social Science course outside of Psychology and at least one Humanities or Fine Arts course. Some courses completed at WTC may be applied toward BS or BA core requirements.

Minor, Second Major, or Individualized Option

  • Every Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies major needs to choose a minor (18-30 credits), second major (30-42 credits), or the Individualized Option (18 credits of coursework outside of the Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies department with 12 of the 18 credits  at the 300/400 level)

  3. The agreement shall be effective on January 23, 2024, and shall automatically renew on every January 23, for an additional year, unless terminated with a two-year written notice.

  • BA and BS cores require at least one Social Science course outside of Psychology and at least one Humanities or Fine Arts course. Some courses completed at WTC may be applied toward BS or BA core requirements.

Minor, Second Major, or Individualized Option

  • Every Psychology major needs to choose a minor (18-30 credits), second major (30-42 credits), or the Individualized Option (18 credits of coursework outside of the Psychology department with 12 of the 18 credits at the 300/400 level)

Considerations

  1. Students must successfully complete all CASSH, Psychology, and UWL degree requirements as listed in the UWL catalog.
  2. To ensure both existing and prospective students' timely completion of Psychology major requirements, students will be unable to declare a Psychology major if they exceed 85 total units of completed and in­progress credits.
  3. Students must earn at minimum of a C in CST 110, ENG 110, STAT 14S and PSY 100 (or WTC equivalent courses) and a combined 2.25 GPA in these four courses.
  4. This agreement is subject to review every three years from the effective date and if WTC or UWL undergoes curriculum revision.

  3. Students must successfully complete all CBA and UWL degree requirements as listed in the UWL catalog.
  4. The acceptance of credits applies only to this Program‐to‐Program Articulation. Students may lose the articulated credits if they change their major to a program outside the CBA.
  5. For acceptance of equivalent courses, WTC courses must have been completed in 2007 or later. Courses completed prior to 2007 will be assessed on an individual basis for equivalencies.
