Placement Testing

A page within Admissions

Universities of Wisconsin online placement tests are required for all new UWL students, regardless of previous credit earned.

Complete your placement tests before May 15. Results must be submitted and processed prior to class registration. Students without scores on file will not be able to enroll in specific courses at registration and may have to wait until scores are submitted to complete registration.

Process

Registration

ACTIVATE YOUR UWL NETID

Your UWL NetID must be active to log in to the registration site. If you have not already done so, complete the steps to set up your UWL password and Okta Multifactor Authentication.

COMPLETE YOUR REGISTRATION

Register Now

  • Registration opens March 15
  • Designate UWL as the score recipient
  • Use a personal email (not issued by a high school or college) that you monitor regularly
    • You may need to check your spam/junk folders for registration confirmation emails
  • Registration confirmation will be sent from regionaltesting@exams.wisc.edu
Testing

PREPARE TO TEST

  • You should study for these exams; the UW Center for Placement Testing offers sample placement tests for review. Test scores become part of your student record & are used to plan your course schedule.

TAKING YOUR PLACEMENT TESTS

  • Our test provider, MEAZURE LEARNING, will email testing instructions and links from: candidatesupport@meazurelearning.com
    • You should receive this email within two business days of registering (often it is received within a few minutes).
    • Tests are available 24/7 for six months after registration
  • When you are ready to complete a test, use the email from MEAZURE LEARNING to access the exam link.
    • The email will also include: your username (UWL NetID) & the password you will need to launch your exams (note: this password is different from your UWL NetID password).
  • Upon completion of a test, SUBMIT your test in order to load your responses. If you do not take this step, your exam will not be complete.

TEST TIPS AND ADDITIONAL INFO

Browser
Any web browser should work; we recommend Edge, Safari, or Firefox.

PC or MAC
Tests are web-based and will work from either platform.

Calculators
A built-in calculator is provided during the Math exam; you also may choose to use any non-graphing calculator.

Scratch paper
Preliminary calculations may be completed on scratch paper.

Quiet location
It is important to take complete testing in a quiet location to avoid distraction.

Test time limits
Tests are timed; the timer is displayed on the screen during testing.

Pausing during testing
Tests can be paused at any time and resumed later. Pausing does not stop the clock unless you log out of the system.

Plan to finish an individual test in one sitting
While we recommend planning to complete a single placement test in one sitting, it is not necessary to take all of your placement tests on the same day. For example, you may want to split up testing for Math and English over different days.

Complete testing by May 15
Students should take the placement tests before May 15 to ensure accurate course registration options

Scoring
You will receive a printout of your scores at START in June.

Fee
A Placement Test Development Fee of $60 will be charged to your first UWL bill in the fall. You will not pay a fee when you register or when you take the tests. This fee covers the authoring, development, licensing, delivery, administration, and scoring of the tests.
