Dates for START

Which START date is best to attend? expanding section

There is no ‘best’ date. Select a date and format that works in your schedule and allows you to spend the entire day with us. We have steps in place to open seats in classes throughout the START dates to ensure a wide variety of classes for all students to select - including those attending the final days. There will be enough classes available to create a beneficial schedule for your first semester no matter which date you attend. START dates for June 2021 are 14, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 24, 25, 28, 29.

How do I sign up for the UW System Placement Tests? expanding section

The at-home exams for University of Wisconsin Placement testing are ready and available to complete online here. Remember, this is a required step for course registration at UWL, so we ask that you complete your at-home exams prior to May 15, 2021. You should also know that:

  • Math and English placement tests are required for all students. Global language placement tests are required to enroll in Spanish, French, or German language courses, including those students who have taken college credit language classes as transfer courses. PLEASE NOTE: If you had previously arranged with our office for your college coursework or AP scores to complete one of the testing requirements, you are exempt from that particular at-home exam.
  • You will use your UWL Net ID and password to access the test registration form. These are the same credentials you use to access your UWL WINGS Student Center.
  • You will be given information about the normal standardized conditions and urged to comply with time limits as best as you can.
  • It is recommended that the test be taken from a desktop or laptop computer or tablet, but NOT on a phone as the screen is too small.
  • Upon completion of the test, you will need to click on a button to submit your scores. If you do not, your exam will still be open and your test scores will not be sent to UWL.
  • Complete the exams without outside assistance to ensure an accurate placement into UWL courses at your skill level.

More information can be found here: Placement Test Registration Instructions

One guest and mask policy expanding section
  • One guest and mask policy: Only you (the student) and one other guest are allowed to attend if you are registered for in-person START. Facemasks will be required at START. No exceptions can be made. University policy requires this for all in-person summer events.
