Congratulations on your admission to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse! We are excited for you to complete your next steps and join the UWL community. While we recognize that events are frequently changing to help slow the spread of COVID-19, we hope to return to our regular event schedule when it is safe. For now, we are planning to host the STudent Advising, Registration, and Transition (START) program on campus in June. Please follow the instructions in the packet to sign up for a START date and complete other important steps prior to your START date. Students and families will be notified if START is modified or rescheduled due to COVID-19.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which event date is best to attend? expanding section

There is no 'best' date. Select a date that works in your schedule and allows you to spend the entire day with us. We have steps in place to open seats in classes throughout the START dates to ensure a wide variety of classes for all students to select - including those attending the final days.

How do I sign up for a START date? expanding section

START Sign-up Process

  • Admitted first-year students for fall and summer who have submitted the $100 enrollment deposit may sign-up for a START Date
  • Students will be able to sign-up for a date to attend START after reading through the mailed START Program.
  • Prepare for signing up for a date by ensuring you have access to your WINGS Student Center.
  • Date sign-up occurs on a first-come, first-served basis, and dates will close when we reach the maximum number of students we can accommodate.

Can I sign up for START without registering for a Placement Test? expanding section

Yes! We still encourage you to sign up for a START date even if your Placement Test has been cancelled.

What if I cannot attend START? expanding section

Attending START is required. Sign-up for a date as soon as you receive the mailed packet, because this will offer you the largest selection of dates.

How do I sign up for Placement Testing? expanding section

We will mail Placement Testing information to all admitted students at the end of February.

UW-La Crosse pledges to work with students and families in all areas impacted by COVID-19. We will be flexible to support students as they continue in their educational journey. At this time the expectation is that all new freshman will be required to still take placement tests. We are staying optimistic that life will return to a level of normalcy in the near future. We recognize that placement tests are being canceled at most sites. Some sites are also adding additional test dates at later times. If your original test dates have been cancelled, you should look to reschedule.

Please continue to review the Placement Test schedule for updates on cancellations and additions of test dates. Alternate plans are being considered if placement tests cannot be completed but nothing has been finalized. If UWL’s use of the Placement Test changes, we will notify all students.

What if my family members cannot attend with me? expanding section
