Caps Off to Commencement

Caps Off to Commencement is a drop-in event designed to help graduating UWL students prepare for commencement and the transition after college. Students can pick up regalia, purchase honor cords and graduation keepsakes, confirm diploma and transcript details, get ceremony questions answered, explore career and graduate school opportunities, receive financial guidance and have a professional graduation portrait taken.

For graduating students, the event brings essential resources together in one convenient place, making it easier to complete graduation tasks, plan for life after UWL and recognize the people who supported them along the way. The next event is November 18, 2026, from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in The Bluffs, Student Union.

Before you cross the stage, make Caps Off to Commencement your final stop on the road to graduation.

  • Associate and bachelor's degree candidates - If you order your commencement regalia by November 16, you can pick it up at Caps Off to Commencement!
  • Honor cords will be purchased separately at the Caps Off to Commencement event; University Bookstore staff will be available to assist in verifying eligibility.
  • UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation (UWLAFF) will have scholarship recipient pins available for those who have received a UWLAFF scholarship, along with an opportunity for students to make their first philanthropic gift to UWL and receive a special tassel to wear at commencement. Soon-to-be graduates can also write a thank-you note to a favorite professor, mentor, or advisor who made an impact during their time at UWL
  • Purchase your diploma frame, graduation announcements, and college ring with Herff Jones*.
  • Records & Registration* will mail your diploma to you. This is a convenient time to meet with them to update your mailing address and learn how to order transcripts.
  • Career Services* will be there to answer questions, help you find a job, and stay connected to UWL.
  • It Make$ Cents!* can help you make the right decisions when it comes to managing your money as a young professional. They can assist you on how to tackle your debt, while saving and investing in your future. 
  • Ready to take the next step in your academic journey? Connect with Graduate & Extended Learning’s program specialist to explore UWL’s graduate programs and discover the path that’s right for you.
  • Get your commencement ceremony questions answered by Graduate & Extended Learning.
  • Community Engagement* will provide you with tips and tricks on how to get involved and give back in any community you find yourself in after graduation.
  • Prepare for your financial future with UW Credit Union*.
  • Stop by the Cleary Alumni & Friends Center during Caps Off to Commencement to have your professional graduation portrait taken by The Grad TEam. There’s no cost to be photographed, and no appointment is needed! You’ll receive a proof gallery after the event with the option to order prints and digital images. It’s a great opportunity to have your photo taken early, before the busy ceremony day, and to share your achievement with family and friends.
