Residence Life

End of Year Move Out

The residence halls close at Noon on May 16 for the academic year.  Students are able to move out anytime prior to that day or as soon as they have completed their course work/finals.  On-campus students will be asked to attend required floor meetings and should be attentive to their email and postings for additional information that will aid in a smooth move out process.  Move out details are also available on our website.  Students should ensure that their address is updated in WINGS if any mail is to be forwarded to them during the summer.

Sustainability

Reduce, Reuse, Reimagine – End of Year Move Out Sustainability Program

As the academic year comes to a close, the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse encourages On-Campus Students to participate in our Reduce, Reuse, Reimagine program. Each year during move out, thousands of pounds of usable items are discarded. We encourage students and families to reuse the items they have; however, we realize that sometimes that is not an option. This program helps minimize waste by diverting "pre-loved" items from the landfill and giving them a second life within the community.

The Reduce, Reuse, Reimagine program will operate during finals week, May 12–May 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Collection sites will be available for on-campus students only to drop off eligible items. However, any student may take items from the collection locations. More detailed information about acceptable items and locations will be shared via email and is available on our website.

Information for Off-Campus Students

The City of La Crosse does not provide large-item pickup, so students living off campus will need to make alternative arrangements for disposing of furniture and other oversized items. Students who are renting in the City of La Crosse should  discuss this situation with their landlords and/or refer to their lease agreements to see what options are recommended.

If additional guidance is needed, off-campus students are encouraged to donate usable items to local community organizations. Please check directly with donation sites in advance to confirm which items they are able to accept. Students should consult the City of La Crosse website for proper disposal/donation options.

Off-campus students should not bring items to campus collection sites or on-campus dumpsters, as these locations are limited to on-campus residents. Collection areas will be monitored, and individuals bringing items to campus without authorization may be cited under UWS Chapter 18.

Move out can generate a large amount of waste. By reusing items whenever possible, donating and recycling when reuse isn’t an option, and disposing responsibly as a last resort, we can work together to reduce our environmental impact. Thank you for helping your student contribute to a more sustainable move‑out experience.

Dining Services

All Things Dining!

The end of the semester is almost here! That means that your student’s Dining Dollars and Residential Block Meals (Stryker Deluxe and Reuter Plans) expire on May 15! Be sure your student visits either on-campus Convenience Store (in the Student Union or in Whitney Center) to check out all of the deals! New ones are being added every week!

There are still some big events coming up this semester! First of all, the Spring Spectacular is happening on Friday, May 8! We will be serving lunch outside of Whitney Center. There will be live music, games, and fun for all! Then, on Monday, May 11 we are holding our annual Late Night Breakfast! Breakfast favorites are served in the Main Dining Room from 9:00pm – 10:30 pm! It is super fun and a great way for your student to fuel up for finals!

Is your student moving off campus next year? We offer several Off Campus Dining Plans to help students make that transition. Students can choose between 20, 40, or 60 meals and they are good for the entire school year. If your student is interested, check out the UWL Dining Plans page for more info. (https://www.uwlax.edu/university-centers/services/dining-services/dining-plans/#tab-205759)

Everyone in Dining Services wants to wish students the best of luck on their finals! Thank you all for an outstanding year and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the fall!

International Education & Engagement

Start Planning a UWL Study Abroad or Study Away Experience This Summer

Summer is a great time for UWL students to explore study abroad and study away opportunities and begin planning for a future term. UWL offers a wide range of options, including 40+ international partner institutions in 900+ locations, UWL faculty‑led programs, and National Student Exchange (NSE) opportunities within the U.S. Most programs do not require foreign language proficiency, making global learning accessible to many students.

Students can now view UWL Faculty‑Led Programs for Winter and Summer 2027, currently posted on the International Education & Engagement (IEE) website, as well as opportunities to study in Seville, Spain , through the Spanish American Institute for International Education (SAIIE). SAIIE courses are UWL courses, so credits do not need to be transferred back to UWL.
Sneak peek: SAIIE may host 2–3 UWL faculty members in residence during Summer 2027—stay tuned for updates and faculty announcements soon.

Importantly, studying away does not necessarily delay graduation. With careful planning and advising, programs are designed to count toward degree requirements, and financial aid can typically be applied to approved study abroad and study away experiences.

International Education & Engagement remains open all summer to help students explore options and plan ahead in person or virtually. International Program Managers are on stand‑by to answer questions, spark ideas, and help students start imagining where learning could take them next.
