QuickBooks® Series

There are two QuickBooks classes, offered on multiple dates. To register for workshops, click here, specify Topic: Business Accounting and Budget, Time Range: One Year, and click Search.  Then click on the Register button next to the program name.  If you have questions or need assistance with registering, send an email to sbdc@uwlax.edu.  

Webinars are FREE but registration is required.  

QuickBooks – An Introduction to Accounting Software

Offered on 3 dates - register for one class:
Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

This program will introduce you to QuickBooks, an accounting software system used by many small businesses.  It will provide details on the accounting software and options for using this software system, including its various functions that:

  • Perform general ledger accounting activities, including accounts receivable and payable
  • Track information to support basic tax filings
  • Support bank reconciliation
  • Help manage cash flow

This program will introduce options available for accounting software (online and desktop versions) as well as special features that are available.  Program participants will have the opportunity to schedule a one on one consultation with the program instructor to review the business accounting software options and support.

A more in depth accounting software training is available as a follow up program. It will provide a more in depth and hands on training on how to use this accounting software in your business.

Kaitlin Holton, owner of Holton Bookkeeping, is a Quickbooks Online Certified ProAdvisor.  She is passionate about small business. She has nine years of bookkeeping experience and four years of entrepreneurial experience. In early 2019, Kaitlin started Holton Bookkeeping, a bookkeeping firm geared towards small, local businesses and has worked with a variety of local and regional clients since then. She understands that when you own a small business, your most precious resource is time. Bookkeeping support can help you get some of that time back so you can get back to running your business.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) is a training program that will demonstrate how to use this accounting software system to help manage the financial side of your business.
The program will show participants how this software system helps a business:

• Perform general ledger accounting activities, including income, invoices and deposits, accounts receivable and payable, bills and expenses
• Connect to your online bank account
• Track information to support basic tax filings
• Perform bank and credit card reconciliation
• Manage cash flow
• Support other financial aspects of a business, such as payroll, track time and effort, etc.
• Learn how to set up QBO for your business
• Explore Tips, Tricks and Applied Examples using QBO
• Learn QBO options, pricing and where to find QBO training and support online

This program will provide a general overview of the QBO accounting system and how to navigate it. Participants completing this more in depth training will have the opportunity to obtain one on one consulting support to help get started or transition to this accounting software system.

Financial Recordkeeping 101

February 16, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., or 
March 25, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
All businesses must keep records. Records help to monitor business progress, prepare financial statements, and prepare tax returns. Participants in this FREE class will learn about the various kinds of financial records, learn about the process of bookkeeping, and gain an understanding of the importance of accounting. Participants will become better prepared to manage business records and will learn how to integrate recordkeeping practices into their organization.

Financial Management Certificate

The Wisconsin Small Business Development Center at UW-La Crosse is launching a new webinar series, Financial Management Certificate, with three sessions for attendees. These free webinars are for small business owners looking to learn more about financial statements, financial projections, financial terminology, and cash flow management strategies.  Participants can take individual classes, or can complete all 3 classes to receive a certificate of completion.

Financial Statements & Terminology
December 3, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Financial Statements form the foundation for business compliance and analysis. This class introduces participants to financial statements such as the profit and loss statement, statement of cash flows, and balance sheet. Participants will learn financial terminology and will gain an understanding of how to perform fundamental analysis of the various financial statements.

Financial Forecasts & Planning
December 17, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Financial forecasts provide the basis for strategic business planning. Participants will learn how to prepare financial forecasts and how to use them for business analysis. Participants will learn how to use budgets and financial projections to guide strategic decision-making and to make tactical adjustments to business operations.

Cash Flow Management
January 7, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Cash flow management can make or break a business. Cash flow management involves monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing cash receipts and expenses. Participants in this class will learn about cash flow cycles, will gain an understanding of cash flow projections, and will discover various ratios used in cash flow analysis.

Why join in on these FREE webinars? “Understanding the financial aspects of a business are critical to starting and growing a business”, SBDC business consultant Mike Walker explains.  “Financial management is the basis of a solid business foundation. Businesses must understand their financial position and recognize how to manage their funds. This includes knowledge of financial statements, financial forecasting, and cash flow management.”

No-cost, individualized, confidential consulting support is available to all class participants. Attendees will be given the option to meet with a business counselor to gain further insight into their own business financial management and develop financial projections for future growth. These classes are useful for businesses just getting started as well as businesses looking to expand, pivot, or grow.
