Award-winning education

The UWL Biology department was awarded the UW System Regents Teaching Excellence Award for academic departments in 2013.

UWL biologists Dr. Scott Cooper (2014) and Dr. Roger Haro (2015) have both been named as Wisconsin State Professors of the Year.

Biology faculty members Greg Sandland, Faye Ellis, Renee Redman, and Meredith Thomsen have been awarded the UWL Provost's Eagle Teaching Excellence Award.

We think our alums say it best:

Reid Johnson

Biology - Biomedical Science Concentration

"I cannot over emphasize the quality of teaching that goes on at UWL. ... I got the sense from all of my professors that they cared about students' learning, wanted to assist in any way they could, and wanted to work collectively with students to facilitate the best educational experience possible."

Rachel Steffen

Biology - Environmental Science Concentration

"I am more confident in my writing, from bigger projects such a script for an Earth Day marketing campaign to smaller emails … and have become more thoughtful and intentional in what I have to say. Who knew that I would learn best writing practices from an ecology course!"
