The State Department and Department of Defense have classified many modern world languages as "critical languages", demonstrating the need for speakers of these languages.

Critical Language Scholarship

  • Funded program for language study
  • Merit-based study abroad scholarship providing cultural immersion and

Boren Awards

  • Provide funding opportunities to study less commonly taught languages and underrepresented in study abroad
  • Represents a pool of highly motivated individuals who wish to work in the federal national security arena
  • Boren Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation
 

Army ROTC cadets and critical languages

CLIP-B is the Cultural and Language Incentive Program - Bonus. Its purpose is to promote the study of language and culture that are important to the Army.

Cadet Eligibility: contracted cadets only (classes taken during the same term the cade contracted are eligible)
