2023-2024 THEATRE SEASON

Dr. Faustus

By Christopher Marlowe
Directed by Nic Barilar

Dr. Faustus PosterWould you sell your soul?  And, if you would, for what?  Faustus is a brilliant but embittered academic, a solitary scholar who has exhausted his confines of human knowledge.  Frustrated with the futility of religion, law, and science, he is desperate for a deeper understanding of the universe--and for the worldwide fame that it will bring.  Risking everything, he strikes a deal with the devil.  His soul in exchange for twenty-four years of absolute knowledge and infinite power.  As he begins to revel in his new powers, the world around him starts to collapse and the clock inexorably counts down to the final moment of reckoning.  Vividly dramatic, rich in poetic grandeur, this classic play remains a robust and lively exemplar of the glories of Elizabethan drama.

Orlando

Directed by Nic Barilar

Orlando PosterA dreamy adaptation of Virginia Woolf's famous tale, Orlando is a magical and poetic dance between gender and through time, a fantastical world in which courtly movement and biographical narration combine to tell the story of a being who lives outside of human expectations and enjoys twice the experience that humanity has to offer.  Orlando, a young nobleman drawn into a love affair with Queen Elizabeth I yearns for something more than life at court.  As he strives to make his way as a poet and lover, his travels keep him at the heart of a dazzling tale where gender and gender preferences shift regularly, usually with hilarious results.

Digital Programs

Beginning Fall 2022, the UWL Department of Theatre and Dance will transition to digital programs.  In an effort to reduce waste and reduce our carbon footprint, we will no longer be offering printed programs for any theatre production.  But, don't worry...you'll be able to access the program online!

Accessing Show Programs

When you arrive at the theatre, there will be postings with a QR code in the lobby and as you enter the theatre.  You simply scan this code with your phone's camera to access the online program.

Benefits to Patrons

Programs will be mobile-friendly, will be available sooner, and will be archived on our website.  Programs can also be accessed before and after the production on your laptop or computer.

Using mobile devices during shows?

We strongly encourage patrons to view the programs before the start of the performance, during intermission, or when the performance concludes.  As always, cell phones are distracting to the actors and other patrons, so viewing the programs before or after the production is ideal.

Will we return to printed programs?

The short answer is probably not.  While there still may be special instances where print programs are needed, the UWL Department of Theatre and Dance is committed to providing this digital platform to our patrons in order to be more environmentally friendly and encourage sustainable business practices.
