Summer Conference Assistant

The Summer Conference Assistant position is an important part of our summer staff. They handle a wide range of tasks all centered on providing hospitality to our conference guests, campers, and summer students.  Many of the responsibilities are parallel to the academic year Resident Assistant position.  Various hours and weekend work is expected.  The Summer Conference Assistant works under the direction of a Residence Life professional staff member.

Schedule

Summer Conference Schedule and Availability

  • Contract work period - May 18th to August 17th, 2026.
  • Scheduled work at the Reuter and Eagle front desks, Eagle Mail Center, and have weekly duty rounds (schedule created together at start of summer)
    • Various hours and weekend work expected
  • Conference Assistants will work 35-40 hours per week from May 18th -  June 26th for WIAA State Track and START
  • Conference Assistants are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours a week for the remainder of the summer; Performance and attendance conditions must be met for summer housing waiver to be applied.
Qualifications

General qualifications and eligibility:

  • Contract Work Period: May 18, 2026-August 24, 2026
  • Be an enrolled student at a UW System School
  • Exhibit a solid work ethic
  • Be able to work well with other people
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively with little-to-moderate supervision
  • Have general knowledge of Residence Life
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Possess good leadership, communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have been previously employed by UWL Residence Life and remain in good standing as an employee.
Job Duties

Specific Duties

  • Participate in training and work during the week following the end of the academic spring semester.
  • Attend daily meetings with supervisors to discuss incoming groups and their specific requirements.
  • Complete daily work assignments.
  • Work with a team in preparing the residence halls for each conference arrival and departure.  Oversee check-ins and check-outs with keys and linens, etc.
  • Manage conference linens, including loading and unloading of linen deliveries, organizing, storing, and taking inventory.
  • Clean and prepare for rooms for conference guests with linens and amenities, and general cleaning.
  • Report maintenance problems.
  • Collect and process lost and found articles from conference groups.
  • Deliver and remove fans, pillows, refrigerators, and extra beds to/from rooms as needed.
  • Work shifts will include mornings, evenings, and weekends, in addition to participating in a duty (rounds) rotation.
  • Work at the front desk of guest services in Eagle and Reuter Hall.
  • Work shifts in the Eagle Mail Center.  This includes collecting  mail in the garage, processing envelopes and packages in StarRez, and providing customer service to students and guests.
  • May be requested to assist in covering the front desk in Residence Life.
  • Serve in a duty position for emergency response for specific camps and conferences.
  • Other duties assigned by Residence Life professional staff.
Compensation

Compensation for work performed will be $13 per hour. 

A single room in a 4-person apartment in Reuter Hall is provided to summer student staff. Performance and attendance conditions must be met.

Throughout the summer, weekly hours will vary.

Summer Custodial Assistant

The Summer Custodial Assistant works with the custodial team over the summer to deep clean the residence halls in preparation for the academic year and maintain day-to-day cleanliness of the residence halls while camps and conferences are in session. 

Schedule and Availability

Typical scheduled hours will be between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

• Be available to work from May 18, 2026 - August 21, 2026
          * Must be available to work during the week following the end of the      academic spring semester *Fall 2026 residence hall staff will be released early for training.


• Be able to repeatedly lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Be an enrolled student at a UW System school
• Exhibit a solid work ethic
• Be able to work well with other people
• Demonstrate ability to work independently of a supervisor
• Have general knowledge of Residence Life
• Possess good leadership, communication, organizational, and time management skills
• Preference will be given to applicants who have been previously employed by UWL Residence Life and remain in good standing as an employee.

Specific Duties
  • Cleaning resident rooms and public areas including restrooms - includes dusting, mopping, washing walls, waxing floors, wiping down furniture, etc.
  • Moving of furnishings/equipment/supplies between halls, within the hall, to-from Facilities Management, including loading and unloading vehicles and trailers
  • Operating equipment: carpet extractors, floor scrub machine, wet/dry vacuum
  • Upkeep and minor repair of custodial equipment
  • Performing minor maintenance including replacement of burned-out light bulbs, unclogging drains
  • Trash removal
  • Cleaning appliances, including refrigerators and ovens/stoves
  • Complete daily work assignments and any other duties given by the Supervisor and/or Office of Residence Life Professional Staff
  • Participate in training
Compensation

Base compensation for work performed is $15 per hour.

Summer Custodial Assistants may live on-campus or off-campus.

A single room in a 4-person apartment in Reuter Hall is provided to summer students with a housing waiver.  Performance and attendance conditions must be met to receive the waiver.

While every effort will be taken to provide 35-40 hours of employment per week, the nature of all summer position is such that this may not always be possible (holidays).  Hours are not guaranteed.

The Student Office Assistant supports the daily operation of the Office of Residence Life, with key responsibilities related to responding to email and phone communications, administrative office tasks, and other duties as assigned. A successful candidate will have customer service skills, the ability to problem solve, and some familiarity with a campus housing experience.

Schedule and Availability

Typical scheduled hours will be between 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.

Qualifications

General qualifications and eligibility:

Job Duties
  • Confidently and professionally answer the office phone and reply to emails sent to the housing email account.
  • Welcome guests who arrive for appointments and notify Residence Life staff when guests have arrived.
  • Utilize occupancy management software to identify basic student information related to room assignments, roommates, and housing applications (training provided as part of employee onboarding).
  • Assist in Residence Life staff with miscellaneous projects.
  • Complete inventories of supplies and complete notes for new supply purchases.
  • Be familiar with how to use various office supplies (laminating machine, copy machine, cricut) and assist others in using items.
  • Create/design materials for residence hall use using Canva or other software.
  • Participate in regular office coverage schedule and remain in communication with direct supervisor regarding any work absences or schedule changes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Compensation and work schedule

Base compensation for work performed is $13 per hour. 

Anticipated 35-40 hours/week; Monday-Friday, hours between 8am-4:30pm

Office Assistants may live on-campus or off-campus.
