Milwaukee Urban Experience (Summer)
The Summer MUE Experience
The UW-La Crosse School of Education partners with Notre Dame School of Milwaukee for this experience. Teacher candidates complete their Field II requirements and coursework during the summer preceding their student teaching semester.
Designed as an intensive four-week, hands-on experience, students live and teach in Milwaukee first and complete online coursework afterward. The full experience encompasses all three summer school sessions. While in Milwaukee, teacher candidates stay in housing with other program participants, attend their field placement for full school days, complete course work in the evenings, and have opportunities to participate in activities around the school and Milwaukee.
Special Considerations:
Participating in this experience will likely advance your time to degree. Be sure to check with your advisor about your options.
Students may be eligible to receive scholarships, particularly for housing (no separate application needed).
Courses Included:
- EDS 446 (Field Experience, Middle School Level)
- EDS 421 (Science Methods)
- EDS 422 (Math Methods)
- EDS 452 (Online asynchronous) (Philosophy and Curriculum for Young Adolescent Learners)
Application & Selection Process
MUE admission is tied to the fall SOE admissions cycle.
Special considerations:
- Prerequisites for both Field II block and Student Teaching must be completed before spring semester (the semester preceding MUE).
- Students should apply for Student Teaching at the same time as they apply for Field I.
