Study Art and Education in Japan

Study Art and Education in Japan

Typically every other summer; next trip, summer of 2027.

This two-course, faculty-led program in Japan offers firsthand cultural experiences in modern Japan, preparing students to become globally responsive teachers. By participating in this program, students will become immersed with Japanese people and culture through ART and TESOL coursework, visiting cultural sites, and considering education.

This program focuses on one major city: Tokyo, the capital of Japan. Tokyo offers a wide range of educational, cultural, and global activities (e.g., museums, cultural and educational sites). In addition, the transportation system (e.g., bullet train, subway, and bus lines) in the Tokyo area is excellent and students have easy access to places to visit. Students will also visit Kyoto as part of the program.

Special Considerations:

  • Students may be eligible to receive scholarships (I-Engage, UWL Foundations, Financial Aid, API Program).
  • Open to all students in the School of Education.

Courses Included:

  • ART 302 (Visual Language in the Global Classroom)
  • TSL 250  (Educating Multilingual Learners)Note: Alternative course(s) will be available for students who have taken ART 302 and/or TSL 250
