Special Education Exploration in Luxembourg (Summer)

The UW-La Crosse School of Education partners with Lënster Lycée International School in Luxembourg, Europe, for this experience. Teacher candidates complete their Special Education Field requirements and coursework during the summer.

Designed as an intensive five-week, hands-on experience, students teach and study in Junglinster, Luxembourg, with additional coursework afterward. Teacher candidates stay with host families during their time there, in Junglinster and the surrounding areas.

Special Considerations:

  • Participating in this experience will likely advance your time to degree. Be sure to check with your advisor about your options.
  • Students may be eligible to receive scholarships.

Courses Included:

  • SPE 465 (Advanced Practices for Students with Challenging Behaviors in an International Setting)
  • SPE 425 ( Advanced Practices for Students with Challenging Behaviors in an International Setting)
  • SPE 435 (Methods in Cross-Categorical Special Education in Luxembourg)
  • SPE 452 (Online asynchronous) (Assessment in Special Education) (This will change after summer of 2026)

Application & Selection Process 

  • Acceptance is tied to the program major/minor, as well as consideration by the International Education and Engagement department.
  • Students should indicate interest by starting the IEE application by April 1 of the year prior to the experience. 
  • Students should complete the application by September 15th.
  • Students should commit to the program by December 1st.
