Benchmarks & Missed Benchmark Process

School of Education Benchmarks

During your course progression, students are responsible for meeting program-specific benchmarks

One of the most important professional responsibilities as an educator is meeting requirements by their deadline. The School of Education and the Office of Field Experience expect all teacher candidates to meet these deadlines, with an emphasis on communication.

We ask that you:

  • Check your email daily during the semester and at least weekly otherwise
  • Open emails from the School of Education inbox and staff
  • Use a calendar to keep track of due dates and plan ahead

It is unacceptable to ignore emails, Navigate messages, and Canvas reminders. We recognize that things come up; however, communication remains a key expectation.

School of Education Missed Benchmark Process

Our benchmarks are classified into three categories:

  • Admissions
  • Eligibility
  • Administrative

Requests for an extension for any of those items should be made prior to the deadline, whenever possible, by completing this linked form. The form will ask students to provide the following information:

  • The specific benchmark(s) that have been missed
  • An explanation of why the benchmark could not be completed within the submission window

The form will be reviewed by a committee, and the SOE Dean’s Office will follow up with the student regarding the next steps. It is important to note that this extension request may trigger a notice/referral to the TCPR committee.

*An extension is NOT guaranteed to be granted. This could result in a delay of program, loss of field placement, or rescinded admission to the School of Education.
