CBA Chair Evaluation Process
CBA Department Chair Evaluation Procedure
Purpose
The purpose of the department chair evaluation is to provide formative, developmental feedback to chairs during their service term. This feedback supports continuous improvement and promotes effective leadership across academic departments in the College of Business Administration.
Evaluation Schedule
Each department chair will be evaluated once during their three-year term, specifically during the second year of service. Evaluations will be administered in February of that year. For chairs serving successive terms, the evaluation will continue to be conducted in alternating years on the same schedule.
Participants
All faculty and instructional academic staff who are eligible to vote in department meetings according to department bylaws will be invited to provide feedback.
Evaluation Process
- The Dean’s Office will administer the evaluation electronically via a secure online survey tool.
- The evaluation includes both quantitative and qualitative items.
- Participation is anonymous, and results are reported in aggregate.
Evaluation Instrument
The evaluation will include the following questions rated on a five-point scale (Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree)
1. Advances the department toward agreed upon goals.
2. Facilitates open and professional communication amongst faculty, staff, and students.
3. Assures that personnel and non-personnel resources are utilized effectively to reflect department.
4. Fairly and equitably mentors faculty and IAS through the retention, tenure, promotion, merit, and/or post-tenure review process.
5. Facilitates positive relationships among and between faculty and staff.
6. Clearly communicates departmental expectations based on the bylaws for personnel evaluation (annual review, merit, retention, tenure, post-tenure review, promotion).
The survey may include additional questions upon request.
The survey will also consist of an overall confidence rating, and optional open-ended comment fields for additional qualitative feedback.
Results and Feedback
- Once the survey period has concluded, the Dean will meet individually with the chair to discuss results, providing a summary from the qualitative responses.
- Summarized quantitative results will be shared in with the department.
