IRS Verification of Non-filing

An IRS Verification of Non-filing Letter provides proof that you did not meet the requirements to have needed to file a 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ form for the year requested. The process to get a Verification of Non-filing Letter is the same as getting a Tax Return Transcript.

If you have filed taxes in previous years, you can use the online tool at to request an electronic or paper Verification of Non-filing Letter. You may also call 1-800-908-9946 for an automated phone system.

If you have never filed taxes, then you will need to mail a form 4506-T to the IRS office. Complete lines 1 & 3, check the box at the end of line 7, enter '12/31/2016' on line 9, complete the signature section and mail to the IRS.
