Preferred lender list

A page within Financial Aid

Students who need additional funds for education, beyond what was listed on their financial aid offer, might consider a private student loan. These loans are from a lender and are not guaranteed by the federal government. Approval of a private student loan is based on creditworthiness; as a result, most students will require a co-signer.

Many lenders also offer private loans for parents if that is something that the parents wish to pursue.

UW-La Crosse does not enter into preferred lender arrangements with specific lenders. Any lender who has had at least three students borrow from their loan program is eligible to have their private student loan listed on FASTChoice, the online tool available to UW-La Crosse students, and the lender is responsible for maintaining the information regarding their loan product(s) on FASTChoice.

Students may choose any lender for their private student loans even if that lender is not listed on FASTChoice.

Philosophies and Guidelines regarding Private Student Loan Preferred Lender Lists

1- The lenders and loan options presented in FASTChoice include lenders that at least three UW-La Crosse students have selected to borrow from in the last three years who still offer a private student loan. Lenders who meet the criteria are offered the option of having their loan(s) included in FASTChoice.

2- Application processing will not be delayed unnecessarily if the student chooses a lender not presented in FASTChoice.
