Off-campus
Resources available to help you explore housing options include:

Purchase a Meal Plan

UWL Dining Services offers a variety of dining locations to meet the needs and preferences of the campus community.  Dining plans provide exceptional value for both residential and off-campus members of the University community.

Academic Advising & Registration

Register for TREK

TREK (Transfer Resources and Engagement Kickoff) is a required one-day program designed to help you successfully transition to UWL.

During TREK, you'll have opportunities to connect with other transfer students, learn about campus resources, and prepare for your journey as an Eagle.

Review your Transfer Credit Report

Your transfer credit report lists the courses accepted from your previous institution(s) and the UWL equivalents. The time required to complete a credit report varies depending on factors such as the number of institutions attended and credits earned.

We will notify you via email when your report is complete. The completed report can be viewed in your WINGS Student Center. Visit the Transfer Credit Report section of our Credit for Prior Learning page for additional information.

Please note: Second-Degree Students do not receive a complete credit evaluation. Consult with the Dean's office for your college to determine courses needed to complete a second undergraduate degree.

Request Official Scores for National Exams

UWL awards credit for a variety of standardized exams, including Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and International Baccalaureate (IB). To be considered, official scores must be sent from the testing organization to Admissions for evaluation.

Visit the Credit by Exam section of our Credit for Prior Learning page for course equivalencies based on exam scores.

Review Academic Advising Information

Advising information is mailed to Fall transfer students at the end of March. Academic advising will be completed with an academic advisor from your assigned college. Check your admission letter to confirm your college assignment.

Please note: Second-Degree Students consult with the Dean's office for your college for academic advising.

Complete Placement Testing (if required)

Depending on the coursework you are transferring to UWL, you may be required to submit Universities of Wisconsin Placement Test scores. Scores are used to determine appropriate placement in math, English, and foreign language.

The UW Placement Tests are used across the UW system. If you have previously attended or planned to attend another UW institution, you may have already completed these tests. Scores from previous testing completed within the past two years may be submitted.

To request evaluation of previous scores, email Matt Jurvelin, Testing Coordinator. Provide your full name, date of birth, and the approximate date the exam was taken.

Specific details for each subject area are outlined below:

English Placement

Review the options below to determine which English placement process applies to you:

  • You have an equivalent course: Completion of, or concurrent enrollment in, coursework equivalent to ENG 110 will satisfy the prerequisite and allow you to enroll in further English courses.
  • You do not have an equivalent course: If your Transfer Credit Report does not grant credit for ENG 110, you will need to submit a UW English Placement Test score.
  • You have a UW English Placement Test score: Contact the Testing Coordinator to request score retrieval. The score will be used to determine your appropriate English course placement.
  • You do not have a Placement Test score: You will be required to participate in the Multiple Measures Placement (MMP) process, administered by the First-Year Writing Program.
  • If you do not complete the MMP process: You will automatically be enrolled in ENG 100 (College Writing Workshop) & ENG 110

Academic Progress & Transcripts

Maintain Academic Progress

Your admission is based on your academic record, including any courses currently in progress. To maintain your admission:

  • Maintain your established grade point average. Poor academic performance in your most recently completed semester may result in your admission being rescinded.
  • Complete all courses currently in progress with satisfactory grades.
  • Submit updated and final official transcripts by the deadlines below.

Submit Final Transcripts

Missing final transcripts will be listed in your WINGS Student Center (To Do List).

To be considered "Final," your transcript must include:

  • Grades for all completed coursework. No courses in progress or future enrollments may be listed
  • Degree conferral date (if applicable)

Before Ordering your Final Transcript:

  • Check your enrollment status: Officially withdraw from your current institution if you will not be returning.
  • Check for future enrollment: Make sure your transcript does not show courses in progress or future enrollments.
  • Confirm your degree conferral date: If you expect to earn an associate degree before starting at UWL, verify the conferral date with your current institution. Degree conferral dates are often later than final grading deadlines.
