Writing Tips
- Show don’t tell: give examples, support argument, cite evidence, explain logic
- Use formal language: avoid cliches and slang and be specific with word choice – say “important” not big reason, say “officer” not cop
- Use active voice: say “I ate pizza.” NOT “Pizza was eaten by me.”
- Proofread, edit, repeat
- Use AI as a tool not a substitute

- Start with a hook – do not use rhetorical questions (Have you ever...?) and (usually) quotations
- Thesis – specific and reasoned response to a question at issue – anser is unknown, unproven, up for debate and has to matter
