Individual research consultation

Why a librarian?
Reference librarians can help you effectively utilize the information resources, tools, and services of Murphy Library and beyond, and save you time in the process!

Use the form below to request a research consultation appointment with a librarian.

  • Research Consultations provide an opportunity to meet with a librarian for in-depth and highly-personalized information research assistance. Meetings are typically 30 to 60 minutes in length.

  • Research consultations are offered as a supplement to regular reference services, which do not require an appointment and in most cases can get you an answer to your question much more quickly.

  • Once you complete the form, you will hear back from a librarian via email. You will then work with that librarian to schedule your meeting.

  • Meetings will usually be held in a librarian's office, but arrangements can also be made to meet in faculty/staff offices. Meetings with Distance Education students will be conducted by telephone or video-conference.
Pandemic update: Consultations will be conducted in-person, by telephone, or by video-conference, by mutual agreement between you and the librarian.

  • This service is offered to UWL students, faculty, staff, and retirees. It is also offered to users of the Federal and Wisconsin government depository library programs.
