Memberships

The recreation membership is your ticket to achieve or maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.  Take advantage of UWL's exceptional recreational facilities by purchasing a membership for the semester, academic year, calendar year, or now on a monthly basis.  Membership includes:

  • access to the Fitness Center, track-side cardiovascular and strength equipment, 200 meter track, courts, climbing wall, racquetball courts, multipurpose room, conditioning room, and multi-activity court
  • access to the Mitchell Hall pool
  • reduced rental and trip rates at the Outdoor Connection
  • ability to sponsor guests (up to 3 per visit) for appropriate guest fee
  • eligibility to play intramural sports
  • ability to participate in family weekends

Students do not need to purchase a membership to use the REC.  This service is included in your student fees, if enrolled in classes and paying the student fee for the Rec for the current semester.

REC Membership Information

Students who are enrolled in the current semester do not need to purchase a membership to use the REC if enrolled for current term and paying the student fee for the REC. 

Student memberships to the REC are included in your student fees and are based on term(s) of enrollment.  You must be enrolled in a minimum of 1 (one) credit to gain access (exception:  summer and winter session).

Students who are not enrolled in the fall or spring semester are ineligible to purchase a semester membership.  Daily guest passes can be purchased for $8 and require a current UWL student sponsor.

Students not enrolled in summer or winter session are eligible to purchase a short-term membership if enrolled in the semester just prior to or immediately following that term.  Daily guest passes can be purchased for $4.

Former students who do not meet these eligibility requirements must pay an $8 guest fee and be accompanied throughout the visit by a current UWL student sponsor.

The Rec Sports Department extends membership privileges for a fee to the spouse/partner of current students, faculty, staff, retiree and emeriti, UWL affiliate must possess an active recreation membership before a spouse/partner is permitted to purchase a membership.

  • Spouse/domestic partner:  marriage certificate or domestic partner affidavit presented at time of purchase

Yes, students attending college at a different institution can use the REC according to the following requirements:

Why is there a fee if a student is not enrolled in summer school or winter session? expanding section

Students who are enrolled in summer school or winter session pay a segregated fee.  Therefore, in fairness to all, it was determined that students not enrolled in these sessions should pay a comparable amount to use the REC (approved by the UWL Student Association, Spring 2014).

Who is eligible to purchase the summer or winter session student membership? expanding section

Students must be enrolled in the semester just prior to or immediately following the term (summer or winter session) of purchase.

What are the summer and winter session membership dates? expanding section

Summer:  expires August 14, 2021
Winter Session: Dec. 28th, 2020 - Jan. 31st, 2021

Does a summer or winter session membership affect rates in the Outdoor Connection? expanding section

Yes, the Outdoor Connection has special rental and trip rates for currently enrolled students and REC members. Non-members will pay higher rates.

Can a daily pass be purchased instead of a membership for summer or winter session? expanding section

Yes for $4 if you were enrolled for the semester just prior to or immediately following summer/winter session. Current UWL ID is required.

Can alumni use the REC? expanding section

NEW -Alumni Association Rec Memberships - Only 50 memberships will be sold

Alumni Association Memberships are now available for purchase. Must be a current Alumni Association member to qualify. Bring your current association membership card to the rec to sign up. Cost is $41/month, $316/annual, $126/semester, $251/academic year, and $60/summer.

Guest Passes

Yes, UWL alums are able to purchase a daily guest pass to use the REC according to the following requirements:

  • Be a current member of the Alumni Association
  • Present current Alumni Association membership card upon each visit
  • Pay daily guest fee of $4 and sign waiver

Alumni members who meet the above requirements are able to sponsor up to 3 guests.  Guests must pay the appropriate daily fee based on status.  Minimum age for using the REC is 16 (exception: climbing wall has no minimum age requirement).

Current Faculty/Staff, Retirees, and Emerti expanding section

Eligibility

Cycle Barre

Let’s ride and sculpt! This beat pulsing, energized class starts with fast flats, hills and sprints on the bike, followed by barre’ moves off the bike that will build a stronger healthier body all while releasing stress.

Cycle Core

Motivating instructors will coach you through an intense ride that includes flats, hills and sprints followed by challenging core work off the bike. This class is for all levels.

Group Strength

The name of the class says it all ~ gain overall body strength with the use of various equipment to include barbells and dumbbells all while learning the proper technique in this fun group setting.

HIIT it!

Short of time? Then this high intensity interval training class is for you, it’s efficient, effective and fun! This fierce workout combines cardio, strength moves and core training, helping you get feel fabulous.

Intro to Strength & Power

Go beyond your traditional class setting and get comfortable in the Fitness Center. Experienced instructors will teach and motivate you through free weight exercises such as barbell squats, deadlifts and explosive Olympic variations. This class is for all levels.

Kettlebell Conditioning

Up for a challenge? This class is a fusion of strength and cardio all while using a Kettlebell. Dynamic yet controlled movements are performed making it a great strength and cardio workout! If you’re in rut, pick up a Kettlebell.

Tabata

Short on time but want a kick butt calorie burning workout? This high intensity workout of 20 seconds all out and 10 seconds rest will rev up your metabolism and get you results!

Yoga

Stressed out? Want to improve overall body strength? Need help with flexibility? Are you anxious or feeling not yourself? This mind, body, & soul class will help reduce stress, improve strength, flexibility and posture, while reducing anxiety and so much more! Sun salutations, breathing work and poses, yoga is for everyone. Whether you’re an athlete, recovering from an injury or just want to get healthier, yoga can help.

Yoga Sculpt

This hybrid class infuses yoga and strength movements. Designed to give you peace and calm while you strengthen your body.

Zumba & Core

Groove & sweat to pulsing Latin beats followed by sizzling toning exercises!

 

Locker Rentals

Full and half lockers are available for rental in the locker rooms and include a towel service. Lockers must be purchased in person at the REC Information Counter and require a $10 deposit for lock and towel.  Rates, including tax (plus $10 deposit):
